What Has Our Work Looked Like in the Last Several Months?

  • COM stood with our officers in the WCSO and other law enforcement jurisdictions we serve, walking with several families through suicides and deaths in the area.  More than once, our chaplains performed the memorial services for the deceased family as well.

  • After one of our regular visits to the Sheriff’s Office, we spent over 2 hours supporting and encouraging a deputy who is caring for a parent dying of a terminal illness.

  • Planning a young men’s life-coaching group in the Fall for a local (secular) high school where COM presented for Service Learning Day in response to several students’ request.

  • Launched an Inmate Chaplain C.A.R.E. team, drawing in volunteers from the community and partnering churches to meet weekly with inmates in the county jail.

  • Working with a team in one of our partner churches to implement an ongoing Twelve Step Spirituality ministry in that congregation (New Design for Living).

  • Provided support through our B.A.D.G.E. ministry fund for deputies in serious financial need.

  • In addition to these larger moments, in the last month COM had 182 additional personal contacts with people, serving a variety of needs, including: serving the whole spectrum of marriage preparation, growth or crisis situations—premarital counseling for new couples, marriage enrichment and support for existing couples, and even walking with a few people in pain of divorce; regular visits to deputy rollcall/briefings; Bible studies in the community and in the jail; inmate visits; life-coaching for leadership and addiction recovery; and putting on a weekly worship service for the Somerby senior living center with a broad variety of volunteers serving.
